WHAT IS AN INFRARED SAUNA?

Infrared saunas use 'far' infrared lighting to penetrate deep within the tissue, muscle and bones.

Unlike traditional saunas that use heated rocks to increase the temperature making it difficult to breathe, an infrared saunas use invisible infrared lighting making it a much more comfortable experience. By penetrating deep into your body, they allow your core temperature to slowly rise allowing your body to gently detoxify and remove the build up of unwanted toxins in your system.

ARE THERE ANY DANGERS TO USE INFRARED SAUNA ?

We are pleased to say that the answer is no, if sauna protocol is followed.Infrared heat is far from a new technology. It has been used in a variety of health and human movement applications for many years. Infrared heat is safe and healthy for all living things. For example, incubators at hospitals use infrared heat to keep new born babies warm. Unlike tanning beds, they are entirely different as they use harmful UV (Ultra violet) rays of the sun.

WHAT BRAND OF SAUNAS DO WE USE?

We use the state of art sauna by Sunlighten. (  include link) https://sunlighten.com.au/why-sunlighten/independently-tested-and-proven/  with a Solocarbon 3-in-1™ infrared heaters that are the only sauna heaters on the market that produce near, mid and far infrared wavelengths. Certain conditions are necessary in order to generate each individual wavelength, so our 3-in-1™ heaters include three distinct heating mechanisms. Other manufacturers may claim to provide full spectrum infrared, however their heaters do not have the technical capacity to deliver on that promise.

CAN I BRING  A FRIEND?

Such a great idea. Why to get well on your own when you an do it together with a friend, lover, collegue or a family member. The saunas are built for three  people but we can accommodate up to 6 when complimented by other spa and wellness treatments or exclusive party packages.  We charge an extra $15 per sauna session per person.

DO YOU HAVE A CANCELLATION POLICY?

Yes. We have a strict 6 hour cancelation policy. If you do miss an appointment, cancel or reschedule an appointment within 6 hours, you will lose the session.

HOW ARE THE SAUNAS CLEANED?

Detoxification is at the heart of our studio wellness philosophy. The sauna cleaning concentrates we use are free from caustic alkalies, fillers or extenders, petroleum by-products, Sodium lauryl sulphate, Toxic colours, fragrances, Chlorine, Ammoniates, Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), Parabens and Formaldehyde. The sauna is made with Canadian cedar wood, which is a natural antibacterial as well as the infrared lighting acts as a natural disinfectant.

DO YOU HAVE SHOWER FACILITIES?

Yes we do. We have an outdoor shower with cool water as well as indoor shower. All visitors must take a shower prior to their sauna session.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE THE INFRARED SAUNA?

There is no one answer for the amount of sessions per week. There is no research suggesting any harm from using a sauna every day. Although, there are several common sense precautions like overheating or dehydration. Please read further information about recommended sauna protocol here.

On average, most people partake in 30-45 minute sessions, 3-4 times a week. Please consult with your health practitioner or ask our friendly staff.

SHOULD I SHOWER DURING THE SESSION IF I GET HOT?

No. We do not recommend showering mid-way through an infrared sauna session as this will immediately reduce your core body temperature and halt the detoxification process. The best is to wait 30 minutes after a session to shower. We love you to stay little longer and use our terrace, meditate, order your refreshing drink or why not to book in a deep cleansing facial or massage.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR DURING YOUR SESSION?

Your spa loft and terrace is all private so we welcome you to wear whatever you feel most comfortable in - which can be nothing at all.

Please remember to sit on a towel during your session.

WHAT  SHOULD I BRING TO MY SESSION?

Feel free to bring your own towel, change of clothing and a water bottle. We have towels for hire for $3 so if you forget, don't stress! We supply body wash and shampoo to use if you are showering and we also offer complimentary water for guests. In your loft, you will find many books that have been donated by our client Vivian. If you love to listen your own music, meditation or music we will love you to bring it with you.

WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS ?

People with the following conditions should consult with their health care practitioner before using a sauna.

Medications

Individuals who are using Warfarin or other blood thinning drugs should not use the sauna.

Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician or a pharmacist for possible changes in the drugs effect when the body is exposed to infrared energy. Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Some over the counter drugs such as antihistamines may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.

Children

The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. The ability to regulate body temperature by sweating is said to occur only after a child has reached puberty.

The Elderly

The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature.

Cardiovascular Conditions

Individuals with cardiovascular conditions or problems (hypertension/hypotension), congestive heart failure, impaired coronary circulation or those who are taking medications, which might affect blood pressure, should exercise extreme caution when exposed to prolonged heat. Heat stress increases cardiac output, blood flow, in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature.

Alcohol/Alcohol Abuse

Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “Sweat Out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment, therefore they may not realise it when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress.

Chronic Conditions/Diseases Associated with a Reduced ability to Sweat or Perspire

Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumours and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating. Consult your health care practitioner before using a Sauna.

Haemophiliacs/Individuals Prone to Bleeding

The use of Infrared should be avoided by anyone who is predisposed to bleeding.

Fever

An individual that has a fever should not use any type of Sauna.

Insensitivity to Heat

An individual that has insensitivity to heat should consult their health care professional. The temperature of the sauna can be set at lower temperatures. If in doubt, do not use any type of Sauna.

Pregnancy

Pregnant women should consult a physician before using any other type of Sauna.

DO I NEED TO GET PERMISSION FROM MY DOCTOR?

Please consult your doctor prior to booking your infrared sauna session if you suffer from the following conditions:

  • cardiovascular issues

  • obesity

  • diabetes

  • multiple sclerosis and other chronic conditions

  • Haemophilia

Clients with pacemakers, metal rods or other surgical implants should also seek medical advice before booking a sauna. We also advise clients not to use drugs, alcohol or other medications prior to using the sauna
